A trim spec without a test method is a colour conversation. China, the EU and the US do not share one fastener standard. They do share the same failure modes: the part pulls off, the edge cuts, the zipper chain splits, or a child can swallow the button.

How the Chinese stack is organised
- GB mandatory — for apparel the one that bites trims hardest is GB 31701, the infant and children’s textile safety spec: no accessible sharp points or edges; very small attachments are discouraged on infant goods; pull-off force scales with part size (commonly cited: ≥50 N for 3–6 mm parts, ≥70 N above 6 mm).
- GB/T recommended national methods — zipper vocabulary GB/T 18746, zipper tests GB/T 30420, attachment pull-off GB/T 32599, sharpness GB/T 31702, generic garment buttons GB/T 2667, copper-class buttons GB/T 28492.
- FZ textile industry — FZ/T 80002 for button and snap attachment strength on garments; hook-and-loop methods under FZ/T 01096; warp-knit lace product spec FZ/T 63045.
- QB light-industry zipper product standards — QB/T 2171 metal, QB/T 2172 moulded (Delrin-type), QB/T 2173 nylon coil, plus later waterproof-coil documents.
None of these replace REACH, CPSIA or a brand RSL. They tell the mill how to measure a chain, a pull-off or a sharp edge.
International methods buyers actually cite
Zipper houses live on ASTM D2061 (strengths), ASTM D2062 (operating characteristics) and related durability cycling. Button impact appears in ASTM D5171. UK trade still mentions BS 3084 (zippers) and BS 4162 (buttons). Fabric tensile and abrasion methods such as ISO 13934 and ISO 12947 belong on the textile, not automatically on a zinc logo.
Children’s goods pick up EN 14682 (cords and drawstrings) and US 16 CFR Part 1501 (small parts). Needle detection is a brand and mill control, not a CPSC statute.

Third-party reports from SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek, TÜV and similar labs are lot- and article-specific. An OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate on the lace mill does not cover the plated snap.
Lace product tests sit on FZ/T 63045 plus colour-fastness methods. Hook-and-loop is FZ/T 01096. Interlinings have their own FZ/T 64000-series language. Put the family on the PO so the lab does not run a zipper method on a button.
